Katonga Wildlife Reserve Uganda


KATONGA WILDLIFE RESERVE:
This reserve is located in western Uganda, 200km from Kampala. It is (207sqkm) it hosts 40 mammal species and 150 bird species. Katonga is one of the best places in East Africa to look for the secretive sitatunga Antelope .However you can see Uganda-Kobs, water, reed and bush bucks, many species of duiker, warthogs, guerezas, fish otter, hippos and elephants. For a bird expect over 150 bird species.
The vegetation comprises of the papyrus swamps, bush land, forest and savannas with attractive rock formation.
Tourist Activities and Attractions

Canoe boat ride
The best opportunities to spot kingfishers and shoebill storks are in the wetlands canoe trail through the reed and papyrus swamp.

Guided walks
The Sitatunga trail and Kishararara trail offer you with site of Sitatunga and primates.


Wetland Canal
Accommodation:

There is a basic campsite in Kabagole 2 km from the Reserve HQ also basic accommodation is available at Katonga View Hotel and Lodge, meals and cold drinks are available for those unable to camp. There is also a campsite at Katonga visitor’s centre which has a pleasant setting with a good dining area
